2014 Jazz from NYC Saxophonist Jeff Hackworth – Soul to Go!

When I transfered files this one got lost because it wasn’t in the right category, it belongs with the 2014 albums that I listened to…. On the Roots Music Report on the Week of June 20th the albums was #32 and LW it was #31! So this morning’s soundtrack was Soul To Go!, the latest release from New York City tenor saxophonist, Jeff Hackworth. Currently, the album is #35 and climbing on the JazzWeek Jazz Chart. Mid -Year Review of the 2014 Jazz Albums…….

This is actually the first post on this site. However, there are a lot of posts here, most of the posts were originally posted at either Me, Myself. Music or Mysteries   or FreeWheelin’ Music Safari. The purpose of this site is to focus on jazz and new age music instead of several different genres. So with that in mind,  as we approach the end of the first half of 2014 here’s a list of the top albums that I listened to this year. Life’s Soundtrack – A Good run made Special by John Mayall’s latest – A Special Life

This week has been a topsy-turvy week, Monday it was in the 80s and then was  cloudy all day yesterday (Tuesday) it looked like it was going to rain and the temperatures were in the 60s!  Today (Thursday) it was supposed to be back into the 80s. so last night (Wednesday) I decide that I better run then or face another hot day running! So of course today turned out a lot like yesterday, but I’m still glad that I ran last night!!  I decided to run on of my oldest routes, a slightly up and down run going up…

No Pain, No Gain…..Gaining doesn’t make a run fun – Kenny Wayne Shepherd does though!!

If there’s pain, there’s gain then I gained a lot from today’s run!! It has rained on a of all day today and when I set off on my run, I think the relative humidity was like 150% and the air was completely still and it certainly seemed that it had no desire to get into my lungs! Needless to say it was one of those runs when you just try to trick yourself, well if I only make 3 miles I’ll be happy, oh 3 down I can make one more mile, 3.5 only one half mile to go, a snap!! Before you know it you’re done, both the four miles and you!! First mile 10:22, acceptable, second mile 10:35 still ok, third mile 11:32 ouch! Fourth mile 12:25 and no I didn’t walk any of it! Average pace 11:14 which is I guess ok! You know what they say “At least you did it!” and I’ll live to run another day!! ….Now the soundtrack for the run that’s a different story……..

Jarekus Singleton – Refuse to Lose….. watch out Blues World here he comes!!

Over the last few weeks, I have been watching the steady rise of Refuse to Lose the new album from Jarekus Singleton up the Roots Music Report’s Blues chart, last week and again this week the album is Number 1! Since the Jarekus Singleton Band has only been around since 2009, when Jarekus formed the band, I really don’t feel too badly that I haven’t found them until now! The downside to that is that i could have been listening to a great band for the last five years!! The blues community has known Jarekus for a while now. 2014 Blues coming July 1st from Blues Guitarist Dave Fields – All In!! (video)

I first discovered Dave Fields’ music back in 2010, in the first few months of this blog’s existence. The first album of Dave’s that I listened to was his début album Times a-Wastin’ and well it and it only took the first song “Let’s Get Shakin'” for me to know, that I was going to like this guy, and it wasn’t long after that I listened to his 2008 release All Wound Up and, well, I loved Dave’s guitar playing, vocals and songwriting from the first listens and I’ve been a fan ever since

Progressive Metal From Australia – Teramaze – Esoteric Symbolism

Today I had a chance to listen to two progressive metal bands, whose latest albums sounded interesting when given quick listens on Progstreaming. The albums and bands were Esoteric Symbolism from Teramaze and A Frail Deception the debut from Psycrence. Once again these two bands exemplify the worldwide appeal of progressive metal, Teramaze hail from Melbourne, Australia, while Psyrence call Athens, Greece home!! This Day in Music – May 25, 1960 – In Philly – Jazz Trumpeter Wallace Roney was born! (video)

Today is the great Miles Davis‘ birthday. He shares his birthday with the only trumpet player that he ever mentored Wallace Roney. Wallace was born in Philadelphia in 1960 So he is too young to have experienced 1960, which was the year that former Whiz Kids manager re Eddie Sawyer resigned as the hapless Phillies’ manager after a 9-4 opening day loss to the Reds and said.: “I’m 49 years old and I want to live to be 50.”  But I digress so it’s back to Wallace. It was discovered when he was 4 years old that Wallace had perfect pitch…
