Mystery – Redemption – a Best of 2023

Mystery Redemption a best of 2023

So yesterday I decided to continue listening to new (2023) prog rock albums. I again visited the Prog Archives to review their best of 2023 album list. Rather than just work my way down the list I decided to filter the list and search for bands that are included in the Neo-Prog sub-genre. When I first started listening to current Prog I discovered that most of the albums I liked were Neo-Prog bands. A  brief review of the list revealed that many of the bands I like released new albums on 2023.  I didn’t need to look far down the…

A 10K Run with New Music from Prog Folkies Mostly Autumn

White Rainbow- Mostly Autumn

The Run – The First 10K In a Long Time Sunday my goal was to make up for not running twice last week because it was windy. I ran last Tuesday and then skipped Thursday and Friday because of the wind. So to make up for that I decided to run at least s six miles yesterday. And overall I was able to meet my goal. The first three miles went really well. I kept up a steady pace of 9:59 minutes per mile for each of the first three miles. After that my pace was slower for each mile. It…

Karnataka – Requiem for a Dream a Best of 2023!

Karnataka - Requiem for a DReam

So it doesn’t look like I’ve posted anything new on this site since 2020! Wow! And while I’ve listened to lots of Jazz and New Age since then, I have listened to very little Progressive Rock.In order to rectify that situation I went to Progstreaming extended to review albums that were released in 2023. The album that caught my attention was Requiem for for a Dream from Karnataka. Since ekreader’s real name is Edward Karn, you can see why the name stood out! Anyway,  let’s see what I found out about Karnataka! From Wikipedia…. Karnataka are a Welsh progressive rock band formed in…

Pyramaze – Epitath – Progressive Metal from Denmark

Ok One of the aspects of Progressive Rock (Prog) I love  is that is an International music genre. This morning I was looking for some new prog to listen to. So I visited the site New Prog Releases and checked for releases from yesterday, Nov 13th. One of the first albums I spotted was Epitaph by Pyramaze. And the band hails from Denmark – perfect!. I am listening to the album now and enjoying it!  Listening has made me realize I have missed prog! About Pyramaze Pyramaze is a progressive metal band, as previously mentioned,  which hails from Denmark. The…

The Dead South Revives a Love of Bluegrass

The Dead South Revives a Love of Bluegrass and Hopefully Blogging!! So it’s been a long time since I spent an afternoon on the hunt for new music. Maybe even longer since I searched the Roots Music Bluegrass chart, but I did just that yesterday. I discovered several bands that I hadn’t heard of previously. I will try to write about several of these bands later in the week, but The Dead South is an initial favorite, The Dead South is a Canadian folk-bluegrass band hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. The band formed in 2012. However, the band’s fortunes took off…

A Musical Visit to Cappadocia with Jeff Johnson and Phil Keaggy

Cappadocia - Jeff Johnson and Phil Keaggy

Cappadocia – Jeff Johnson and Phil Keaggy Along with Timothy Wenzel’s Running Away, Cappadocia by Jeff Johnson and Phil Keaggy has been in my music rotation for several weeks now. Cappadocia is the third recording as a duo for Jeff Johnson and Phil Keagqy. The inspiration for the album is Cappadocia, a visually spectacular area in central Turkey. Christians have regarded Cappadocia and the surrounding area, as a place of great spirituality for several thousand years. About Cappadocia and It’s Impact on Jeff Johnson The colorful soil of Cappadocia has eroded over the millennia leaving steep cliffs and tall rock spires known…

Run Away with Timothy Wenzel’s New Album – Running Away!

Running Away -Timothy Wenzel

Running Away – Timothy Wenzel Over the last few years, Timothy Wenzel has become one of my favorite New Age Artists. His music is perfect for meditation or my morning or evening yoga. It also just great to have on when I’m reading. The first of Timothy Wenzel’s albums that I listened to was Summon the Wind. You can read what I wrote a about that album here. Next came Distance Horseman,. For that album click here. Timothy’s  2017 was What We Hold Dear, and while I have listened to the album and enjoyed it, I have not written about it….

Meg Bowles – Evensong: Canticles for the Earth

Evensong - Meg Bowles

Meg Bowles – Evensong: Canticles for the Earth I discovered an album the other night, when I was moving some CDs around. When I first looked at it I thought -what’s this?  Oh it’s probably an advanced copy of a CD that I got to review. I guess I’ll give it a listen. But I bet it’s a vocal album that I really won’t like that much.(I have a tendency to not like new Age female (vocalists sorry ladies)  So I put it in the CD player and then smacked myself up the side of my head when what came…

Hello and Welcome to A Jazzy, Proggy, New Age Safari.

Hello and Welcome to A Jazzy, Proggy,New Age Safari.  I’m EKReader and I’ll be your guide on this safari. On this Safari we will be exploring the jazz, progressive rock and New Age music genres. Actually you will be joining me several years into the safari. That’s the reason there are so many posts already on this website. After about four years of blogging, I started to explore both the jazz and…
