After the Vet, a good run – Soundtrack provided by Rick Estrin and the Nightcats!

So tonight after returning from the vet’s office, I really didn’t want to sit around, so I went for a run. Even though the weather was beautiful tonight, low 70s, no humidity, I contemplated not running because my legs were sore, but the earlier happenings helped to push me out the door! Before I started, I said to myself, don’t worry about how fast you run, in the words of Nike “Just Do It”. So the first mile was under 10 minutes per mile. ok, didn’t feel too bad, but we’ll see how it goes going up hill. Up Pancoast…

Yesterday’s Soundtrack and Morning Blues from Dani Wilde!

So yesterday afternoon, after hearing Marley’s Ghost cover Paul Siebel’s “She Makes Me Lose My Blues”, I went to the original and listened to some of Paul’s music. The first track was the same song, I think Paul was one of the first folkies to have that Western twang in his music! Then came some of the other favorites like “Then Came the Children”, “My Town” and two all time favorites “Louise” and “Long Afternoons”. If you’ve never heard these songs check them out!! After Siebel, I was looking through the playlists on the iPod  and came across an eleven…

Life’s Soundtrack – Running with some new acoustic blues (to me) from Catfish Keith!

So if you’ve read the post from earlier this evening, you already know that tonight was a running night, what you don’t know is that it almost was a very short run! When I started out my left hamstring about mid way up the back of the thigh felt bad, not bad enough to stop just bad enough to notice and want to stop, and I almost did! Anyway, I just slowed down and it didn’t get any worse so I kept going. I finished the four mile run and the good thing was that the miles were progressively faster!…

Into the Night with Oli Brown – Here I Am!

So on the way to do some testing down on the Garden State Parkway this morning I listened to British Bluesman Oli Brown’s new album Here I Am and it’s pretty damn good, but then again it should be since it comes from a band that at the 2011 British Blues Music Awards won the following two awards: BEST BAND of the YEAR BEST ALBUM of the YEAR (Heads I Win Tails You Lose) The awards  go alongside his MALE VOCALIST and YOUNG ARTIST of the YEAR awards from 2010 Oli’s drummer, Wayne Proctor, won the BEST DRUMMER of the YEAR…

Life’s Sountrack – slowly running with new blues from Shawn Starski!

So I decided to run on Monday this week, initially with the idea that I could run again in Williamsburg on Thursday and then again today. My wife reminded me, that I probably wouldn’t want to get up on Thursday morning and run and then spend the day moving, Elizabeth into her dorm room, which is on the third floor with no elevator and no air conditioning! I agreed and thought I would get up on Friday and run, but after a long day moving Lizzie in, when 7:00 am rolled around on Friday morning, the thought of getting up…

New Blues Supergroup, Into the Night with the Royal Southern Brotherhood

So a couple of weeks ago a spotted a name of a band on the Roots Music Blues Chart that I didn’t recognize, gave their album a quick listen, put it on the iPod for a more thorough listen, and then forgot about it! I think a track or two may have come up on a shuffle, after that, but I didn’t give the album a long listen. Well yesterday I picked up the July/August issue of  Blues Review and I saw that the band members of that   forgotten band are: Mike Zito, Devon Allman, Cyril Neville, Charlie Wooten…

Morning Musical Roots – Green Onions – Roy Buchanan

So today fifty years ago in 1962 Booker T. and the MGs released one of my favorite instrumentals of all time “Green Onions”. I love the cover on The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper. I was originally going to post Booker T’s version but when I went to youtube I saw this cover of the song performed by Roy Buchanan. I was never a big Buchanan fan, he’s probably a victim of too much music too little time! So here’s some background on Roy from Wikipedia. Roy Buchanan (September 23, 1939 – August 14, 1988) was an…

Life’s Soundtrack – A better run – music by Prog-Rock band Empty Tremor

ok so I still suck at running but I didn’t really start to feel bad until after the third mile in last nights run so I guess there’s improvement!! But it’s hard to have real improvement until I run more than one day a week!! The lack of running has been a combination of a sore leg and hot temperatures! Overall the run last night was almost a minute twenty faster than last weeks run – about a 10:25 pace! The soundtrack for the run was a prog-rock band from Italy Empty Tremor. The album that I listened to was…
