The three albums that I listen to this Folk Monday came from the May Folk DJ Charts and were all names I am unfamiliar with. They were Donna Ulisse, Robin Greenstein and Guthrie Kennard. I will provide just a brief overview now and will write more about each album later as the week progresses!
The first album was by Donna Ulisse. The new album currently listed on the DJ Chart is Holy Waters, but looking at the song titles and listening briefly I could tell that the album was a little too gospel for me. So I listened to her release Walk This Mountain Down and I was glad I did the album is more bluegrass than folk, but there are some great vocals and some fine picking on the album. So look for a more thorough review tomorrow.
Album Two was Images of Women Vol 1 by Robin Greenstein. This album is a great collection of traditional folk songs about women. Greenstein’s vocals on these tracks are great as are the songs. It was just a pleasure to listen to and I will tell you more about it later.
The last album was Ranch Road 12 by Guthrie Kennard and like the other two albums a review of this album requires more time than I have tonight so more will come. But the vocals here are Tom Waits meets Bob Dylan and the sound is a little Ray Wylie Hubbard, who produced the album. Anyway it was good all the tracks are interesting and I enjoyed it alot!
So a good day of music comes to an end but you’ll hear more about these albums since each album and artist deserves it!
