Ok so the other night I discovered the world of Pandora. Yeah, I knew what it was but had never really tried it on my first go around I started a blues channel and put in the names of some of my favorite blues musician. Several tracks by artist’s whose names I knew came on followed by one I didn’t Jimmy D. Lane the track was “It’s Time” from the 2007 release of the same name. The track sounded pretty good so I checked out the full album and out it on the iPod, bottom line the album and the artist is great, I love both the guitar work and has vocals. I’ve listened a couple of times and will write about the album after a couple of more listens!
Anyway today I created another station a jazz station using the names of favorite vibraphonists. Again several tunes came one from Stefon Harris, Milt Jackson, Gary Burton and then a track came on with some really fine sax work looking up I saw the name of the artist was Hailey Niswanger (Nice-wonger). So I checked out her website and discovered she is a 21 year old and the track I had listened to was from her debut album Confeddie released in 2009 when she was 19!  So toniht I went to Rhapsody and listened to the whole album and was very impressed! Hailey covers tracks from artist like Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter and does them proud. Now I can write all about this album or I can send you to an article written by someone who REALLY knows jazz Nat Hentoff  the title of the article says it all: This Teenager Has Got It! From the article:
But the most exhilarating one I’ve heard is musical— “Confeddie,” the debut CD of 19-year-old alto saxophonist Hailey Niswanger, and a work with the joyous feeling of the first day of spring. More remarkable, Ms. Niswanger is still a student, at Boston’s Berklee College of Music.…
Here’s Hailey with the Benny Golson classic “Stablemates” which is included on her album.
