Nighttime Jazz- Mike Freeman , Zonavibe “The Vibesman”

So this afternoon I was doing some work in the office so I turned to some jazz on the iPod. Last week I had added a  jazz vibes player Mike Freeman Zonavibe The Vibesman to the iPod so that was what I turned on. Once again if you’ve read any of my past posts you know that vibes are one of my favorite instruments, making Gary Burton and  Milt Jackson among others favorite artists, and now I may have to add Mike Freeman to the list!.

Mike is known for his recordings of original music (ranging from jazz, Latinjazz, salsa, Brazilian, fusion, and R&B); He has produced several albums and The Vibesman 2012, expands his music by adding saxophone and flute to the mix.

Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Freeman has called New York home since 1981. Along with his original music Freeman has also performed with Lucho Cueto’s all-star group Black Sugar and with Mark Holen’s eclectic Latin blues band Zambomba. He has performed with the  Spanish Harlem Orchestra (directed by Oscar Hernandez)  and with Willie Villegas’s Joe Cuba Sextet for New Jersey’s salsa congress both with legendary sonero Cheo Feliciano.

If all that isn’t enough Freeman has been a guest artist/clinician for  Master classes and arranging at Florida International U., New York University and the Berklee College of Music, among others.

I only listened to the album once but I know that it’s going to get played alot when I need to zone out or have great background music! So if you’ve never heard Mike check him out and based on the above it looks like I have a lot of music to check out-  as per usual! So as we watch the baseball All-Star game let’s listen to some music from the “The Vibesman”
