Saxophonist Doug Webb was born in Chicago and raised from the age of three in California. He is a well-known West Coast jazz musician. Webb has appeared on over 500 recordings for a myriad of artists including:Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Sal Marquez, Stanley Clarke, Brian Bromberg, Quincy Jones, Mat Marucci, Bobby Caldwell, Kyle Eastwood, Rod Stewart, Carly Simon, Art Garfunkel, Queen Latifah, Cher and Vikki Carr.He played for fifteen years with the Doc Severinsen Tonight Show Big Band.. with whom he still tours. Webb is another one of those multifaceted artist who obviously never sleep, because in addition to all the above he is also well-known for his work in TV and Films., His TV resume includes playing for the Family Guy orchestra and soprano saxophone for the Law and Order theme song. and here’s the biggy – playing the saxophone of Lisa in the television show The Simpsons.. In the movies, you may hae heard his solos in the sound tracks for Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino and .Mystic River .
In addition to doing everything for everybody, Webb also has a solo career with six releases. The sixth album is where I come in! That album Another Scene is currently No 12 on the JazzWeek Music Chart. The album is titled Another Scene because on this album Webb has changed coasts and has come to New York, where his sax is joined by three other fine musicians.pianist Peter Zak, drummer Rudy Royston and bass player Dwayne Buono. The quartet really works their way through some great hard bop on the album, and it;’s an album that I really enjoyed. Others have said that it is his best work to date! Here’s Doug and his West Coast Quartet playing at Typhoon in Santa Monica
