A Five-Mile Run with the Music of Jim Stubblefield

2017’s First Five-Mile Run and I’m kept in stride  by the music of Jim Stubblefield So yesterday was a running morning and things looked pretty good. Except for that morning humidity. At eight o’clock the humidity was still above 90 percent so I decided to wait a little before heading out. I wanted to up my distance a little so I spent part of the time I spent waiting plotting out a 5 mile run. Even though tim he temperature was fairly low it was pretty sunny, so I decided I wanted to get as much shade in the run…

Alex de Grassi – AM Acoustic Mix – Part II

Alex de Grassi Provides the Middle of a Great Morning Mix. So yesterday morning’s acoustic guitar mix began with a few tracks from Acoustic Alchemy’s album Blue Chip. The great acoustic guitar vibes continued with music from albums by Alex de Grassi and Brooks Williams, two of my favorite acoustic guitarists. Alex de Grassi‘s music came on in the middle of the commute I listened to a few tracks from the album A Windham Hill Retrospective. The music for the last part of the commute was composed of music from Brooks Williams’ album Little Lion a favorite of mine! In this post, I’ll cover Alex de Grassi’s:…

Traveler – Lawson Rollins

Lawson Rollins – Traveler – Another Awesome Album!   I discovered the fantastic guitar of Lawson Rollins a few years ago. My first encounter with his music was through his work as part of the duo Young & Rollins,  then in 2013 I met the solo artist, when I listened to his 2013 release Full Circle.  In both settings,Rollins is amazing! Just ask Guitar Player Magazine who says this about his playing: “ungodly classical chops…dazzling speed, uncanny accuracy and beautifully delicate touch.”  That artistry is on display again on Rollins’s latest release Traveler. Lawson’s solo discography includes Infinita, Espiritio, and Elevation in addition…

Johannes Linstead – Midnight Rhumba

Johannes Linstead – Midnight Rhumba – Guitar and Kundalini – Yes! So last week  I instituted a new item into my daily routine, The Music and Reading Hour. The idea is to set aside an hour a day to listen to music from musicians that I don’t know and read the books that I am currently reading. The first Music and Reading Hour featured five jazz artists, while the second featured four New Age artists. One of those artists was Johannes Linstead, I listened to a few tracks from Linstead’s latest release Midnight Rhumba. About Johannes Johannes is a Canadian guitarist and…

Today in Music – Feb 1, 1959 – Ottmar Liebert’s Birthday!!

Today is the birthday of one of my favorite acoustic guitarists Ottmar Liebert. From Wikipedia: Ottmar.. ….was born February 1, 1959 in Cologne, West Germany to a Chinese-German father and a Hungarian mother. As a child, he spent most of his time traveling throughout Europe and Asia with his family. He began playing classical guitar at 11, and flamenco guitar at 14, after he “found a Flamenco LP in the bargain bin at a local supermarket”.[1] After performing rock music in his native Germany, he moved to the United States and settled in Boston for a few years, performing in various rock clubs.[2] In 1986…

Afternoon Music from the Guitar of Lawson Rollins……

Full Circle - Lawson Rollins

So this morning I was in beautiful Newark NJ. Last night we went to a fund-raiser for Team Willpower, a night of bowling. It was the first time I bowled in many years. It took several throws to even be respectable, and for me the 110 I bowled was not even that! But it was for a good cause and we had a good time! One of the artists that I’ve been listening to over the last few days has been Lawson Rollins I listened to his fine guitar playing a while ago as part of the duo Young and Rollins,.and…

Morning Music from the Guitar Duo – Young & Rollins – Mosaic

So over the last few days I have been listening to the album Mosaic from the guitar duo of Dan Young and Lawson Rollins. The album is a fantastic collection of their own compositions, which come from different styles including: salsa music, Latin jazz, blues, samba, bossa nova, flamenco, and classical styles. Resulting in a music that is a blending of Nuevo Flamenco, World Music, and Latin Music genres.Daniel Young and Lawson Rollins first met in Washington, D.C. in 1998. Rollins started out as a classically trained guitarist before moving into Latin American and flamenco guitar styles and Young holds…

2013 New Age: Impossible Truth – William Tyler

So I continued my exploration of the Echoes Top 25 Albums for April 2013 and stopped at Number 6 William Tyler’s album Impossible Truth Tyler is an accomplished young Nashville guitarist and this is a great, distinctive and original sounding album!! Today the music was just basically background music while I was working, but I am looking forward to listening and drifting maybe later tonight! From William’s website…. On Impossible Truth, his latest long player for Merge, William takes it further out than anyone has been ready to go. I’m not talking about choice of note; I’m talking about emotional…

New Age: Johannes Linstead – Tales of a Gypsy

Johannes Linstead – Tales of a Gypsy A while back when I was listening to Jesse Cook and exploring flamenco guitarist, i listened to the music of Johannes Linstead. I have heard Johannes’ music before and enjoyed it but for some reasons none of his albums appear in my library.  He is not one of the guitarist that I listen to regularly – mistake! As I listen again, to Tales of A Gypsy I think I  need to explore his discography more thoroughly!! While listening to his music, I feel  the atmospheres that he creates. Johannes was born and raised in…

New Age: “Into the Night” with the nouveau-flamenco sounds of Luna Blanca

So a while back, when I was listening to Jesse Cook, The Blue Sessions album, the album finished and MOG radio came on with artists similar to Jesse Cook. One of the groups that caught my ear was Luna Blanca. I listened to their 2007 release, Magic and really enjoyed it. Since then I have listened to their 2012 release El Dorado and the album Live and enjoyed both of them as well! I have since discovered that the group is from Germany and is one of the most popular  nouveau-flamenco groups in the world. Currently, another 2012 release Obsession is at 2 on…
