New Age: “Into the Night” with the nouveau-flamenco sounds of Luna Blanca

So a while back, when I was listening to Jesse Cook, The Blue Sessions album, the album finished and MOG radio came on with artists similar to Jesse Cook. One of the groups that caught my ear was Luna Blanca. I listened to their 2007 release, Magic and really enjoyed it. Since then I have listened to their 2012 release El Dorado and the album Live and enjoyed both of them as well! I have since discovered that the group is from Germany and is one of the most popular  nouveau-flamenco groups in the world. Currently, another 2012 release Obsession is at 2 on…

New Age: The Blue Guitar Sessions – Jesse Cook

So this morning I received a newsletter from the PBS show Echoes about the shows that will be on this week. I was excited when I saw that tomorrow John Diliberto will be interviewing one of my favorite guitarists, Jesse Cook about his new album  The Blue Guitar Sessions. Knowing that I will forget all about listening tomorrow night, I thought I better go listen to the album this afternoon. So I went over to MOG and put it on. Now for those of you who are not familiar with Jesse Cook, Here’s some information from Wikipedia: Jesse Arnaud Cook…

New to Me: New Age from Todd Boston and Coyote Jump!

OK so like a true junkie who can’t get enough of the drug, I went  searching for new New Age music at lunchtime today! Somehow, and I forget how, I ended up at Echoes.org, I used to listen to Echoes with John Deliberto on WXPN a lot and now most times I forget that it is on at night. Anyway I wrote down the names of several of the artists whose CD have been chosen as CDs of the Month. The list includes: Marconi Union, Theiry David, Todd Boston and Coyote Jump. I gave each a brief listen this afternoon…

Armik – Beautiful Flamenco Guitar….

2015 Update: This afternoon I was listening to One World the new album from Jesse Cook. Listening brought, thoughts about the flamenco guitar of Armik. So I went to Spotify where I discovered that Armik has released a new album titled Romantic Spanish Guitar Vol. 2. Sound s good to me!  I first discovered the music of Armik back in 2010 and since then I occasionally listen to his awesome work! The following is a post I wrote back in 2012 when he released the album Reflections. The new album is playing as I write this and it, like its…

Into the Night with Gary Stroutsos and his Native American flute!

So this morning I needed to do some writing at work so out came some Native American flute music. It came from an artist that I have never heard before Gary Stroutsos and his 2011 release Inside Tutka Bay and I am a fan! Additionally I have a lot of catching up to do because his career started with Native American music in 1994 when he moved from Washington to North Dakota and includes a gazillion albums! Stroutsos started his musical career after being in awe of Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull while at Grand Valley State College in Allendale, Michigan….

Twang Tuesday Part II – Jupiter Coyote

Ok so maybe they’re not that twangy but they do have a banjo and fiddle and that’s close enough for me. Anyway the band that I listened to the longest and liked the most on the first listen yesterday was Jupiter Coyote and their album Waxing Moon and as usual these guys have been around forever, well at least 20 years and I’ve never heard of them! But then I just started listening to bands like Widespread Panic and New Monsoon so here’s some background from their website: The group traces its roots to Brevard, N.C., where childhood friends Matthew…

Welcome Back and this AM – Burning Sky!

After two days on the road – six hours plus to Williamsburg on Monday and then pack up my daughters stuff at William and Mary and then six plus hours back yesterday I am back and maybe can even write some stuff today to catch up!! I didn’t really listen to anything new on the trip just listened to a mix of the stuff I already had on the mp3 player! I listened quickly to some different blues musicians last night but couldn’t listen to them this morning as I was doing some writing so I listened to some Native…

Mary Youngblood – Beneath the Raven Moon

Mary Youngblood – Native American Flute – Beneath the Raven Moon   So one of the other types of music that I listen to at work when background music without lyrics is needed or at times of stress is American Native Flute. My favorite artist is R. Carlos Nakai. I also listen to Robert Tree Cody and Douglas Spotted Eagle. One artist who I have listened to a little is Mary Youngblood , but the other day I downloaded onto the mp3 player her 2002 release Beneath the Raven Moon and I have a new Native American flutist to listen…
